well said Scottish Lesbians. Lesbians were at the forefront for the fight against Clause 28 and we are at the forefront of this fight. It was also butch lesbians who led the way for other lesbians like myself to come out to be proud of who they are and how they dress. They are being used now as a political football for the trans lobby. And by the way Nadia Whittome i'm not a cis lesbian - there is only one type of Lesbian and that's what the Supreme Court declared last week - biological women attracted to other biological women.
Very good!! Exactly what I was saying to my wife this morning after hearing the plight of butch lesbians wanting to use the toilet being suddenly brought up in mainstream media over and over again as if it was a new thing and as if the treatment of butch lesbians by society is something that most people have always been really concerned about. Written much better than I could ever say it, and with all the embarrassing, and enraging, quotes too. I just hope you weren't planning to enter any women's spaces, sports or services until you get cracking with meeting the "necessary" Euro-centric standards!
In the (what now seems the distant) past, if a masculine-looking woman walked into the Ladies she was unlikely to be challenged because everyone just used the loo appropriate for their sex and there was trust. Butch lesbians are only challenged now because trans women have made a habit of using the wrong loo. If the trans lobby simply accept the SC ruling, trust could return, but I can't say I'm optimistic.
Yes, totally agree with that. It’s about the expectation and trust that everyone will stick to a sex based social contract around toilet use, regardless of appearance and “identity”.
Let us please not use cis- I really don't even know what it means. I do know what Terf means and love this but can we move beyond what TRA bio-weaponry language use to describe us. A Lesbian is a Lesbian is a biological woman!!
It's a great shame that Kate Osborne MP chose to use the word 'cis'. There's absolutely no reason to use it, especially now we have legal protection of our sexual orientation.
This man, whenever he sees butch lesbians, is never in the slightest doubt that what he is seeing is a woman / women...usually rocking a stylish and unique look...pulling off a hyper masculine image such as...flat top hair cuts, Dr Martens, dungarees and so on and then somehow imbuing it with unmistakably feminine lesbian energy.
Hi Scottish Lesbians, I have technical problems with your article that I hope you can fix? Because I can't see very well I have a enlarge the front size to read Substack articles. However, all the quotes, which are a key part of this article, stay tiny so I can't read them. This means I can't get any sense from this article, which is disappointing. I'm hoping there's something you can do to make the text within your quotes enlarge along with the text of your own writing? Thanks, it would be great to read your article.
Hi Flis, I'm sorry you can't enlarge the quotes on the device you're using. Unfortunately we're not very tech savvy so I'm not sure why the quotes aren't enlarging. I'm using a laptop and can enlarge everything by zooming the whole screen rather than increasing the font size.
Hello, It's not always convenient to use a laptop and, anyway, mine is having problems. Can't you ask Substack tech people about this issue as it is Substack itself that allows readers to change the font size? Or, can't you simply copy the text of your quote and paste it into the main body of your writing (maybe change it to a different font or italics) put quotation marks around it and add an acknowledgement of author etc? That way everyone who is able to read would be able to read it on any device. Thanks.
